Chapter 7

1 THEN Elisha said, Hear the word of the LORD; thus says the LORD: Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria.

2 Then the king's aide answered and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And Elisha said to him, Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.

3 Now there were four leprous men sitting at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, Why do we sit here until we die?

4 If we say, We will enter into the city, the famine is severe in the city, and we shall die there; and if we still sit here, we die also. Now therefore come and let us go to the camp of Aram; if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they put us to death, we shall but die.

5 So they rose up early in the twilight to go to the camp of Aram; and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp, behold, there was no man there;

6 For the LORD had made the army of Aram hear the noise of horses and the noise of chariots and the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the king of the Egyptians and the king of the Hittites to come upon us.

7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, their horses, and their asses, even their camp as it was, and they fled for their lives.

8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into a tent and ate and drank and took from there silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid it; then they came again and entered into another tent and carried booty from there also and went and hid it.

9 Then they said one to another, We are not doing right; this day is a day of good tidings, and how long shall we remain silent? If we wait until the morning light, some mischief will come upon us; now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household.

10 So they came and called to the doorkeepers of the city; and they told them, saying, We went to the camp of Aram, and behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied and asses tied and tents as they were.

11 And the doorkeepers called out and told it to the king's household within.

12 And the king arose in the night and said to his servants, I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall capture them alive and then get into the city.

13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some horsemen take five of the horses that remain; if they are captured, let them be considered a loss like all the army of Israel that has perished; therefore let us send and see.

14 So two couples of horsemen mounted, and the king sent them after the army of Aram, saying, Go and see.

15 And they went after them as far as the Jordan; and, lo, all the road was full of garments and vessels which the Arameans had left behind in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

16 And the people went out and plundered the camp of Aram. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

17 And the king placed his aide in charge of the gate; and the people trod upon him at the gate and he died, as the prophet of God had said when he came down as a messenger to him.

18 And it came to pass as the prophet of God had foretold to the king, saying, A measure of fine flour for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel shall be sold tomorrow at this time in the gate of Samaria.

19 But that mighty man had answered the prophet of God and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And the prophet had said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.

20 And so it happened to him; for the people trod upon him in the gate and he died.

2 Da antwortete6030 der Ritter7991, auf welches Hand3027 sich8172 der König4428 lehnte, dem Mann376 Gottes430 und sprach559: Und wenn der HErr3068 Fenster699 am Himmel8064 machte6213, wie könnte solches1697 geschehen? Er sprach559: Siehe da, mit deinen Augen5869 wirst du es sehen7200 und nicht davon essen398.

3 Und es waren vier702 aussätzige6879 Männer an der Tür6607 vor dem Tor8179; und einer376 sprach559 zum andern7453: Was wollen wir582 hie bleiben, bis wir3427 sterben4191?

4 Wenn wir3427 gleich gedächten, in die Stadt5892 zu4191 kommen, so ist935 Teurung in der Stadt5892, und müßten doch daselbst sterben4191; bleiben wir2421 aber hie, so müssen wir auch sterben4191. So laßt uns nun hingehen3212 und zu dem Heer4264 der Syrer758 fallen5307. Lassen2421 sie559 uns leben, so leben wir; töten4191 sie uns, so sind wir tot.

5 Und machten sich in der Frühe5399 auf6965, daß sie zum Heer4264 der Syrer758 kämen. Und da sie vorne an den Ort7097 des Heers kamen935, siehe, da war935 niemand376.

6 Denn der HErr136 hatte935 die Syrer4264 lassen hören ein Geschrei6963 von Rossen5483, Wagen7393 und6963 großer1419 Heerkraft, daß sie251 untereinander376 sprachen559: Siehe, der König4428 Israels3478 hat8085 wider uns gedinget die Könige4428 der Hethiter2850 und6963 die Könige4428 der Ägypter4714, daß sie über uns kommen sollen.

7 Und machten sich auf6965 und flohen5127 in der Frühe5399; und ließen5800 ihre Hütten168, Rosse5483 und Esel2543 im Lager4264, wie es stund, und flohen5127 mit ihrem Leben5315 davon.

8 Als nun die Aussätzigen6879 an5375 den Ort7097 des Lagers4264 kamen, gingen935 sie2934 in der Hütten168 eine259, aßen398 und tranken8354 und nahmen5375 Silber3701, Gold2091 und Kleider899 und gingen935 hin3212 und verbargen2934 es; und kamen wieder7725 und gingen3212 in eine andere312 Hütte168 und nahmen draus und gingen935 hin und verbargen es.

9 Aber einer sprach559 zum andern7453: Laßt uns nicht also tun6213! Dieser Tag3117 ist935 ein376 Tag3117 guter Botschaft1309. Wo wir das verschweigen2814 und harren2442, bis daß licht216 Morgen1242 wird4672, wird unsere Missetat5771 funden werden; so laßt uns nun hingehen3212, daß wir kommen und ansagen5046 dem Hause1004 des Königs4428.

10 Und6963 da sie kamen935, riefen7121 sie am Tor7778 der Stadt5892 und sagten es ihnen an5046 und sprachen559: Wir sind zum Lager4264 der Syrer758 kommen, und siehe, es ist935 niemand376 da, noch keine Menschenstimme120, sondern Rosse5483 und Esel2543 angebunden631 und die Hütten168, wie sie stehen.

11 Da rief7121 man den Torhütern7778, daß sie5046 es drinnen6441 ansagten im Hause1004 des Königs4428.

12 Und der König4428 stand auf6965 in der Nacht3915 und sprach559 zu6213 seinen Knechten5650: Laßt euch2247 sagen559, wie die Syrer758 mit uns umgehen. Sie5046 wissen3045, daß wir Hunger7457 leiden, und sind8610 aus3318 dem Lager4264 gegangen, daß sie sich im Felde7704 verkröchen, und denken: Wenn sie aus der Stadt5892 gehen935, wollen wir sie lebendig2416 greifen und in die Stadt5892 kommen3318.

13 Da antwortete6030 seiner Knechte5650 einer259 und3478 sprach559: Man nehme die fünf2568 übrigen7604 Rosse5483, die noch drinnen sind7604 überblieben (siehe7200, die sind7604 drinnen überblieben von aller Menge1995 in Israel3478, welche alle dahin ist3947), die laßt uns senden7971 und8552 besehen.

14 Da nahmen3947 sie8147 zween Wagen7393 mit Rossen5483; und der König4428 sandte7971 sie dem Lager4264 der Syrer758 nach310 und sprach559: Ziehet hin3212 und besehet!

15 Und da310 sie ihnen nachzogen bis an5046 den Jordan3383, siehe, da lag der Weg1870 voll4392 Kleider899 und Geräte3627, welche die Syrer758 von sich3212 geworfen7993 hatten, da sie eileten. Und da die Boten4397 wiederkamen und sagten7725 es dem Könige4428 an,

16 ging3318 das Volk5971 hinaus und beraubte962 das Lager4264 der Syrer758. Und es galt ein Scheffel5429 Semmelmehl5560 einen Sekel und zween Scheffel5429 Gerste8184 auch einen Sekel nach dem Wort1697 des HErrn3068.

17 Aber der König4428 bestellete den Ritter7991, auf des Hand3027 er6485 sich8172 lehnte, unter das Tor8179. Und das Volk5971 zertrat7429 ihn im Tor8179, daß er starb4191, wie der Mann376 Gottes430 geredet hatte1696, da der König4428 zu ihm hinabkam3381.

18 Und geschah, wie der Mann376 Gottes430 dem Könige4428 sagte1696, da er sprach559: Morgen4279 um diese Zeit6256 werden zween Scheffel5429 Gerste8184 einen Sekel gelten und ein Scheffel5429 Semmelmehl5560 einen Sekel unter dem Tor8179 zu Samaria8111;

18 And it came to pass as the prophet of God had foretold to the king, saying, A measure of fine flour for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel shall be sold tomorrow at this time in the gate of Samaria.
